Procedure
1N Aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (2.3 ml) was added at room temperature to a solution of 1-[5-(ethoxymethyl)pyridin-2-yl]-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (223 mg) in ethanol (16 ml), and stirred at 70° C. for an hour. Then, 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (4.6 ml) was added and stirred at 70° C. for an hour. After the reaction, ethanol was evaporated, 1N hydrochloric acid aqueous solution was added to adjust the solution to pH 1 to 2 and the precipitated solid was collected by filtration to give 1-[5-(ethoxymethyl)pyridin-2-yl]-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid (168 mg) as a white solid.
