Reaction Steps
To a solution of 1-methyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate (3.81 g, 20.6 mmol, Princeton) in MeOH (20 mL) at was added hydrazine (2.0 mL, 35% in water, 41.2 mmol) The reaction mixture was heated to about 60° C. for about 2 h. The reaction was cooled to ambient temperature and concentrated under reduced to afford 1-methyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide (3.81 g, 20.6 mmol, 100%, which was used without further purification). LC-MS (Table 1, Method g) Rt=0.90 min, m/z 186 (M+H)+.
