To a solution of tert-butyl ((1S,2S)-2-((5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazin-2-yl)amino)cyclopentyl)carbamate (3.49 g, 10.08 mmol) in dry DCM (67 ml) at 0° C. was added 1-bromopyrrolidine-2,5-dione (CAS number 128-08-5; 2.15 g, 12.09 mmol). The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature overnight. A further portion of portion of 1-bromopyrrolidine-2,5-dione (CAS number 128-08-5; 1.70 g, 9.56 mmol) was added and the reaction stirred for an additional 24 hours. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and then purified by column chromatography (silica, 0-30% ethyl acetate/petrol) to afford the title compound.
