To a solution of tert-butyl N-{4-[(4-methoxyphenyl)methoxy]-2-[2-(2H-1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)benzamido]cyclopentyl}carbamate (1.85 g, 3.64 mmol) in DCM (36 ml) and water (0.364 ml) at 0° C. under an atmosphere of nitrogen was added 4,5-dichloro-3,6-dioxocyclohexa-1,4-diene-1,2-dicarbonitrile (CAS number 84-58-2; 1.655 g, 7.29 mmol). The reaction was stirred at 0° C. for 1 hour, then was partitioned between a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate and DCM. The organics were filtered through a hydrophobic frit and concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was purified by column chromatography (silica, 0-100% ethyl acetate/petrol then 0-30% methanol/ethyl acetate) to afford the title compound.
