Into a NaOH aqueous solution (3.46 g, 24.0 mL) for hydrolysis, 11.4 g (72.0 mmol) of ethyl butyrylacetate was added, and stirred under heating at 30° C. for 3 hours. After the three hours, the reaction mixture was cooled down to 0° C., and a 5 N HNO3 aqueous solution as added thereto to make the reaction liquid acidic. To the reaction mixture, 4.34 g (7.20 mmol) of a copper (II) nitrate aqueous solution was added dropwise, and subjected to magnetic stirring for 3 hours. The precipitated solid was taken out by filtration, and washed with ion-exchanged water and acetone to obtain 4.37 g (12.2 mmol) of copper (II) butyrylacetate dihydrate in the form of blue solid.
