Triphenylene-2,7-diol (314 mg, 1.2 mmol) was dissolved in DCM (13 mL) and pyridine (1 mL). The solution was cooled to 0° C. and Tf2O (0.48 mL, 2.65 mmol) was added dropwise. After stirring for 2 h, the reaction mixture was poured into HCl (1N) and extracted with DCM. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated. Taken on crude.
