Procedure
A 100 mL flask, equipped with a magnetic stirbar, was charged with methyl-3-nitro-N-(2-phenylethyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinolin-6-amine (0.71 g, 2.28 mmol), Pd/C (10% w/w, 0.15 g, 0.14 mmol), and EtOH (10 mL). The flask was capped with a balloon filled with hydrogen and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The mixture was filtered over Celite (5 g) to remove the catalyst. The filtrate was concentrated to afford the title compound. The material was used in the next step without further purification.
