Following a literature procedure2, a solution of solketal (1.25 mL, 0.01 mol) in THF (20 mL) was stirred and cooled to 0° C. under N2 and KOtBu (1.349 g, 0.012 mol) was added. The mixture was stirred 15 min, 2-bromopyridine (1.1 mL, 0.011 mol) was added, and the mixture was stirred 18 h at room temperature, diluted with H2O, and extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined extracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and evaporated to give the crude title product (288.1 mg, 17%).
