In a 500-cm3 four-necked flask in which the atmosphere was replaced with nitrogen, 15 g of 1,4-cyclohexanedione and 36 g of cyclopentadiene were dissolved in 200 cm3 of methanol. 34 cm3 of pyrrolidine were added dropwise to the solution at 0° C. over 30 minutes, and the produced solid was collected by filtration and then washed with methanol, followed by drying, to obtain 39 g of brown 1,4-biscyclopentadienylidenecyclohexane.
