Procedure
To 6-t-butyldimethylsilyloxymethyl-5,6-dihydro-4-hydroxy-pyran-2-one (0.26 parts) in dichloromethane (3 cm3) at ambient temperature was added pyridine (0.1 parts) and then acetyl chloride (0.1 parts). After approximately 30 minutes at ambient temperature the reaction mixture was washed with water, dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to yield 4-acetoxy-6-t-butyldimethylsilyloxymethyl-5,6-dihydropyran-2-one (0.2 parts).
