Procedure

A mixture of 6-[(3-fluoro-5-[4-methoxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl]phenoxy)methyl]quinoline (1.835 g), dimethyl sulphate (0.52 ml) and methylene chloride (25ml) was stirred and heated to reflux for 16 hours. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and the precipitate was filtered off to give 6-[(3-fluoro-5-[4-methoxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl]phenoxy)methyl]-1-methylquinolinium methyl sulphate (1.9 g) in 77% yield.
