Procedure

A solution of 2-(3-methoxy-2-pyridylmethylthio)-ethylamine (2.1 g) in ethanol (15 ml) was added over one hour to a stirred solution of dimethyl-N-cyano-dithioimidocarbonate (1.5 g) in ethanol (15 ml) and the mixture was allowed to stand overnight, to yield on recrystallisation from ethanol/ether N-cyano-N'-[2-(3-methoxy-2-pyridylmethylthio)ethyl]-S-methyl-isothiourea (2.2 g), m.p. 102°-103° C.
