31.4 g. (0.134 mole) of 12-methylene-5,6,7,12-tetrahydrodibenzo[a,d]cycloocten-6-one and 270 mg. of 10% palladium on charcoal were combined in 225 ml. of 95% ethanol and shaken under 50 p.s.i.g. of hydrogen. When hydrogen uptake ceased at about 1 mole equivalent, the mixture was filtered and evaporated in vacuo to give 31.1 g. of white solid, m.p. 152°-155° C.
