Procedure
To a solution of 2-amino-2'-trifluoromethyl-benzophenone 1 [L. H. Sternbach et al. Helv. Chim. Acta., 45, 2226 (1962)](8 g) in benzene (80 ml) is added chloroacetyl chloride (29 ml), and the mixture is refluxed under heating for 30 minutes. Benzene is evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue is washed with n-hexane to give crystalline 2-(2-chloroacetyl)amino-2'-trifluoromethylbenzophenone (10.05 g), which is recrystallized from benzene-n-hexane to give the pure crystals, mp. 79°-81° C.
