Reaction Steps
Ethyl adamantylideneacetate (7) (31 g) in tetrahydrofuran (50 cm3) was added dropwise to a suspension of lithium aluminium hydride (5.2 g) in tetrahydrofuran (30 cm3). When the addition was complete, the reaction 0° C., allowed to warm up to room temperature and poured onto crushed ice. Work up gave the alcohol (8) (8.8 g) as a colourless oil which partially crystallised.
