Procedure
A solution of 45 parts of methyl N-(1-cyclohexylbutyl)glycine in 50 parts of acetic acid, anhydride and 300 parts of formic acid was stirred for 14 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was evaporated and the residue was taken up in dichloromethane. The organic layer was washed with water and a sodium carbonate solution, dried, filtered and evaporated. The residue was crystallized from a mixture of 2,2'-oxybispropane and petroleum ether. The product was filtered off and dried, yielding 48 parts (94.9%) of methyl N-(1-cyclohexylbutyl)-N-formylglycine as a residue (int. 4).
