3-[6,7-Dichloro-2-(3-chloro-2-butenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1-oxo-2-propyl-1H-inden-5-yl]propionic acid (6.8 g, 0.0168 mole) dissolved in methylene chloride (65 ml) was added over 15 minutes to a mixture of sulfuric acid (75 ml) and methylene chloride (35 ml) at 5° C., stirred at 5° C. for 1 hour, poured over ice and water, and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic extracts were washed with water, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was recrystallized from butyl chloride to obtain the product mp 131°-3° C.
