3-Succinimido-5-nitrobenzoic Acid [D; Y is CH2CH2, Z is OH] was prepared by heating 3-amino-5-nitrobenzoic acid with succinic anhydride in the presence of sulfuric acid. It had the m.p. 285°-290° C. when recrystallized from aqueous dimethylformamide.
