Procedure
2-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazolin-5(6H)-one (3.0 g, 0.0139 mole) is suspended in 250 ml of n-butyric acid and refluxed overnight under nitrogen. The resultant solution is stripped to a solid which is crystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate-absolute ethanol to give 2.8 g of product (71% yield), m.p. 170°-172°. An analytical sample is prepared by recrystallizing the above material from ethyl acetate-absolute ethanol (1:4) to give 2.5 g of pure title compound, m.p. 170°-172°.
