4-(2-Methoxycarbonylvinyl)-2,6-diisopropylphenol (Example 1, 350 mg) was dissolved in a solution of ethyl acetate (10 mL) and methanol (10 mL) and hydrogenated at 35 psi over palladium on carbon (Pd/C) for 24 hours. The resulting mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated to provide the title compound; 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ=1.27 (d, 12H, CH(CH2)2), 2.60 (t, 2H, CH2), 2.87 (t, 2H, CH2), 3.13 (m, 2H, CH(CH3)2), 3.68(S, 3H, OCH3), 6.87 (S, 2H, ArH).
