Reaction Steps
To a solution of 4-methyl-2-(4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-thiazole-5-carbaldehyde (200 mg, 0.74 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (2 ml) was added slowly a 0.5 M solution of (1,3-dioxan-2-ylethyl)magnesiumbromide in tetrahydrofuran (2.06 ml, 1.03 mmol) at ambient temperature under an argon atmosphere. The reaction mixture was stirred 1 h at ambient temperature, saturated aqueous NH4Cl solution was added (15 ml) and the mixture was extracted two times with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed two times with brine/ice water 1/1 and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 280 mg (0.72 mmol, 98%) of the title compound as colorless oil which was used in the next step without further purification.
