Procedure

Using ethyl 2-acetamido-2-(ethylamino)acetate (0.90 g, 4.79 mmol), benzylamine (0.62 g, 5.75 mmol), and NaCN (0.03 g, 0.51 mmol) gave an oily residue which was purified by flash column chromatography on SiO2 gel (3% MeOH/CHCl3) to give the desired product as a white solid.
