Benzyl 2-methyl-4-(2-(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethylsulfonyl)butan-2-ylcarbamate (790 mg, 1.83 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (15 ml) and was purged with nitrogen. Palladium on carbon (10%, 40 mg) was added, and the suspension was put under a blanket of hydrogen (1.3 atmospheres). The suspension was stirred for 1.5 hours, filtered through a 0.45 um PTFE filter, and the solution concentrated in vacuo. The material was used without further purification. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.19 (s, 6H), 1.91 (m, 2H), 2.14 (s, 2H), 3.2-3.3 (m, 4H), 3.38 (s, 3H), 3.5-3.7 (m, 8H), 3.92 (m, 2H); LRMS (ESI/APCI) m/z 298 [M+H]+.
