Procedure

To a solution of benzyl 2-methyl-4-(1,3,4-trihydroxybutan-2-ylsulfonyl)butan-2-ylcarbamate (6.69 g, 17.2 mmol) in MeOH (100 ml) was added 10% palladium on carbon (490 mg). The suspension was put under an atmosphere of H2 (1.3 atmospheres) and stirred for 12 hours, filtered through Celite, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was used without further purification. LRMS (ESI/APCI): 256 [M+H]+.
