Procedure

To a solution of S-(4-methyl-2-oxooxazolidin-4-yl)methyl ethanethioate (6.07 g, 31.2 mmol) in methanol (30 ml) was added 5.0 M NaOH in H2O (10 ml, 50 mmol). The solution was stirred for 2.5 hour, concentrated in vacuo, suspended in ethyl acetate (400 ml), washed three times with 100 ml 5% NaHSO4, 100 ml saturated NaCl, dried on MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The material was used without any further purification. LRMS (ESI/APCI) m/z 148 [M+H]+.
