To a stirred solution of 2,4-difluoro-3-[[2-fluoro-5-(3-fluorophenyl)-3-methyl-phenyl]methylamino]phenol (150 mg, 0.42 mmol, 1.0 eq) in 2-butanone (10 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (203 mg, 0.62 mmol, 1.5 eq). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min then ethyl bromoacetate (83 mg, 0.50 mmol, 1.2 eq) was added. The reaction was stirred at room temperature 30 min then filtered and concentrated. The crude residue was purified by chromatography (EtOAc:petroleum ether, 0:1 to 1:4) to give the title compound as a gum (150 mg, 81%).
