To a solution of 4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-[[2-fluoro-5-(3-fluorophenyl)phenyl]methylamino]phenol (130 mg, 0.36 mmol, 1.0 eq) and Cs2CO3 (175 mg, 0.54 mmol, 1.5 eq) in 2-butanone (20 mL) was added ethyl 2-bromoacetate (59.7 mg, 0.36 mmol, 1.0 eq). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. Water was then added and the aqueous layer extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (EtOAc:petroleum ether, 0:1 to 1:10) to give the title compound as an oil (80 mg, 50%).
