To a solution of isopropyl 2-[4-fluoro-3-[[3-(3-fluorophenyl)-5-methoxy-phenyl]methylamino]-2-methyl-phenoxy]acetate (300 mg, 0.66 mmol, 1 eq) and AlCl3 (526 mg, 3.95 mmol, 6 eq) in CH2Cl2 (10 mL) was added ethanethiol (245 mg, 3.95 mmol, 5 eq) at 0° C. under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h and the resulting mixture was quenched by the addition of water. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc and the combined organic extracts were washed with water, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (petroleum ether:EtOAc, 15:1) to give the title compound as a colorless oil (120 mg, 41%).
