To a mixture of isopropyl 2-[2,4-difluoro-3-[[2-fluoro-5-(3-fluorophenyl)phenyl]methylamino]phenoxy]acetate (II(d)) (1.0 g, 2.24 mmol, 1.0 eq) in dioxane (10 mL) was added NH3 (35% aqueous solution, 30 mL). The reaction was then heated to 100° C. and stirred overnight. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo. Water was added and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The organic extract was washed with water and brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid (320 mg, 36%).
