A solution of 2,5-dimethylpyrazine (3.24 g, 30.0 mmol) in dichloromethane (DCM) (30 mL) was cooled to 0° C. A solution of O-(mesitylsulfonyl)hydroxylamine (12.9 g, 60.0 mmol) in DCM (30 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h. Then diethyl ether (Et2O) (150 mL) was added. The precipitate was filtered and collected to give 9.42 g (97% yield) of the title compound as a white solid. ESI MS: m/z 124.1 [M+H]+.
