Reaction Steps

To a solution of 1-(4-bromophenyl)hydrazine hydrochloride (25.0 g, 112 mmol) in H2O (500 mL) was added KOCN (730 mg, 9.01 mmol). The resulting solution was stirred at 40° C. overnight. After cooling to rt, the resulting solids were collected by filtration to obtain compound 11a as a grey solid (22.0 g, 84% yield). Mass Spectrum (LCMS, ESI pos.): Calcd. for C7H8BrN3O: 230.0 (M+H). Found 230.2.
