A mixture of compound 87a (1.60 g, 4.09 mmol), and ethyl 3-bromo-2-oxopropanoate (1.72 mL, 12.3 mmol) in DME (25 mL) was stirred at 80° C. under Argon for 3 days. After cooling to rt, the mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (20-60% EtOAc/heptane) to give compound 87b as a light brown solid. 1H-NMR (CDCl3; 400 MHz) δ 8.43 (d, J=2.2 Hz, 1H), 8.38 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 7.74 (dd, J=8.8, 2.4 Hz, 1H), 7.66 (d, J=2.7 Hz, 1H), 6.81 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 4.44-4.52 (m, 2H), 3.68-3.75 (m, 4H), 3.60 (d, J=5.1 Hz, 4H), 1.51 (s, 9H), 1.43 (t, J=7.1 Hz, 3H).
