2-Hydroxy-2-isopropyl-3-(tetrahydropyran-4-yl)succinic acid (70 mg, 0.27 mmol) was dissolved in acetic anhydride (1 mL), and the solution was left standing at 120° C. for 10 h. The acetic anhydride was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue thus obtained was subjected to silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate 3:1) to give 38 mg of the title compound as a solid (yield: 67%).
