Drug Loading. Hydromorphone beads were prepared by dissolving hydromorphone HCl in water, adding Opadry Y-5-1442, light pink (a product commercially available from Colorcon, West Point, Pa., which contains hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol and D&C Red No. 30 aluminum lake) and mixing for about 1 hour to obtain a 20% w/w suspension. This suspension was then sprayed onto Nu-Pareil 18/20 mesh beads using a Wurster insert.
