Benzyl 3-(N-(2-amino-2-oxoethyl)methylsulfonamido)-4-methoxybenzoate (220 mg, 0.561 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (20 ml) and CHCl3 (5 ml), then Pd/C 5% (119 mg, 0.056 mmol) was added. The solution was shaken under hydrogen atmosphere at 30 psi on a Parr apparatus for 30 minutes. The catalyst was filtered off and the solvent removed under vacuum to give 3-(N-(2-amino-2-oxoethyl)methylsulfonamido)-4-methoxybenzoic acid (150 mg, 89% yield).
