Procedure
Methyl 4-(cyclopropylmethoxy)-3-formylbenzoate (2.6 g, 11.87 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (40 mL), and NaOH 1 N (17 ml, 17.09 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 4 hours. MeOH was evaporated under vacuum, and the reaction mixture was partitioned between EtOAc and HCl 1 M. The aqueous layer was extracted 3 times with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4, filtered and solvent removed under vacuum to give 2.42 g. (quantitative yield).
