Reaction Steps
Into a 25-mL round-bottom flask, was placed 4-bromo-6-[(4-chlorophenyl)(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)methyl]-1,2-dihydroquinolin-2-one (370 mg, 0.86 mmol, 1.00 equip), potassium carbonate (355 mg, 2.57 mmol, 3.00 equip), and N,N-dimethylformamide (10 mL). To the resulting mixture was then added CH3I (182 mg, 1.28 mmol, 1.50 equip) dropwise with stirring. The resulting solution was stirred for 2 h at room temperature. The reaction was then quenched by the addition of water (200 mL). The resulting solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL) and the organic layers combined and concentrated. The residue was applied onto a silica gel column with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1:1) to yield 4-bromo-6-[(4-chlorophenyl)(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)methyl]-1-methyl-1,2-dihydroquinolin-2-one as a yellow solid.
