Reaction Steps

To a suspension of 6-(4-chlorobenzoyl)quinolin-4(1H)-one (1.26 g, 4.45 mmol) in DMF (8 mL) at room temperature was added slowly phosphorous tribromide. The resulting mixture was stirred under argon for 30 min. The reaction mixture was made basic by the addition of solid NaHCO3 until pH was greater than 10, diluted with water and filtered. The product was washed with several portion of water and dried to yield (4-bromoquinolin-6-yl)(4-chlorophenyl)methanone. (M+H)+: 346, 348.
