A mixture of ethyl 2-[9-benzyl-7-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-3-oxa-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-7-yl]acetate (0.7 g, 1.67 mmol), 10% Pd/C (0.5 g) in methanol (20 mL) was stirred for 12 hours under 1 atm H2. Filtration followed by removal of the residue gave ethyl 2-[7-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-3-oxa-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-7-yl]acetate 146a, which was used in next step without purification. Yield: 96%. MS: calc'd (MH+) 329, measured (MH+) 329.
