A mixture of 6-chloro-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine (0.40 g, 2.6 mmol)(Ark Pharm Cat. No. AK-32412) and N-iodosuccinimide (0.64 g, 2.9 mmol) in methylene chloride (6 mL) and acetonitrile (3 mL) was stirred at 70° C. for 3 h. After cooling it was concentrated and the residue was treated with water. The precipitate was collected by filtration to afford the desired product (0.70 g). LCMS (M+H)+=279.9.
