Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5-bromo-6-chloro-3-(1-BOC-2-(S)-pyrrolidinylmethoxy)pyridine (500 mg, 1.28 mmol) in acetonitrile (4.0 mL) was added 4-vinylpyridine (156 mg, 1.5 mmol), palladium acetate (29.0 mg, 0.12 mmol), tri-o-tolylphosphine (156 mg, 0.12 mmol) and triethylamine (3.2 mL). The reaction mixture was heated in a sealed tube at 100° C. overnight, then cooled to room temperature. Minimum amount of saturated sodium bicarbonate was added to free the amine hydrochloride salt, and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The residue was chromatographed on a silica gel column, eluting with 4 to 50% ether in hexane) to give the title compound (282 mg). MS (CI/NH3) m/z 416 (M+H)+.
