Procedure
3 g N-[2-[2-(trifluoromethyl)4-pyrimidinyl]phenyl]-2,2-dimethylpropanamide was dissolved in 30 mL glacial acetic acid, 5 g anhydrous sodium acetate was added, and a solution of 2.8 g bromine in 5 mL acetic acid was added dropwise with stirring over 1 h. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight, after which it was diluted with water. The precipitate was collected by filtration, washed well with water, then with hexane, and was dried in a vacuum oven overnight to yield 3.3 g of the title compound melting at 153°-157° C. 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 1.28 (s,9H), 7.40-8.4 (6H), 10.6 (s,1H,NH).
