Reaction Steps
To a solution of 24 (1.51 g) in methanol (70 mL) was added 5% sodium hydroxide (10 mL). The solution was stirred for 18 h, concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The ethyl acetate layer was extracted w/50 mL each of 2% potassium hydrogen sulfate, saturated sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to obtain the product. NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.50-7.10 (18H, m), 6.76 (1H, m,), 4.60 (1H, m), 3.82 (1H, m), 3.08 (2H, m), 2.47 (3H, m), 1.43 (9H, s).
