Reaction Steps

Sodium borohydride (7.5 mg, 0.2 mmol) was added to a stirred suspension of 3,4-dihydro-1'-[2-(benzofurazan-5-yl)ethyl]-6-methanesulfonamido-spiro[(2H)-1-benzopyran-2,4'-piperidine]-4-one [prepared as described in Example 94, Step B] (45.6 mg, 0.1 mmol) in ethanol (2 ml). The mixture was stirred for 16 hours, then poured into aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate (saturated, 10 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×10 ml). The combined organic fractions were dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure to give a pale yellow oil. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate (2 ml) and ethanolic HCl (6N, 0.5 ml) was added. The mixture was cooled and the precipitate collected and dried in vacuo to give the hydrochloride as a white solid (32 mg, 65%), m.p.=242°-244° C.
