A suspension of tert-butyl ({5-bromo-1-[(6-methylpyridin-3-yl)sulfonyl]-1H-pyrrol-3-yl}methyl)methylcarbamate (206 mg), (2-fluoropyridin-3-yl)boronic acid (80 mg), sodium carbonate (119 mg) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (80 mg) in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (5 mL) and water (2.5 mL) was stirred under a nitrogen atmosphere at 105° C. for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, water was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution, water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: hexane-ethyl acetate=1:1) to give the title compound as a pale-yellow oil (yield 87 mg, 41%).
