To a cooled (0° C.) solution of 4-(3-nitro-phenyl)-morpholine (43)(4.16 g, 20 mmol) in methanol (50 ml) was added Pd/C (10% loading, 460 mg). The mixture was stirred at room temperature under an H2 (1 atm) for 16 hrs. The mixture was then filtered through a Celite™ pad, the filtrate dried using MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (3.39 g, 95.2%) as an orange solid that was suitably clean to be used without any further purification. m/z (LC-MS, ESP): 179 [M+H]+, R/T=1.69 mins.
