Procedure
To a solution of 2.65 g (10.11 mmol) of 1-(2-aminoethyl)cyclopropanamine hydrobromide in 21 ml of methanol was added 3.83 ml (21.24 mmol) of a solution of sodium methoxide in methanol (5.55 N). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The precipitate was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated. The crude was dissolved in 9 ml of water and 1.07 g (10.11 mmol) of cyanogen bromide was added portion wise. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h and evaporated to dryness to give 2.08 g of pure compound as an orange oil.
