To a solution of 3-amino-1-benzhydryl-pyrrolidin-2-one (42) (0.2 g, 0.75 mmol) in dry CH2Cl2 (15 ml) was added diphenylmethyl isocyanate (0.17 mg, 0.82 mmol) dropwise under nitrogen. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for two days followed by refluxing for 5 hours. Removal of solvent under reduced pressure followed by column chromatography using hexane: ethyl acetate (2:1) gave the desired product in 65% yield.
