Procedure

To a solution of (+)-N-((3R)-3-(4-isopropylphenyl)-4,6-dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-5-yl)-3,3-dimethylbutanamide (933 mg, 2.46 mmol) obtained in Example 37 in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added aluminum chloride (721 mg, 5.40 mmol) at −70° C. under an argon atmosphere and the mixture was stirred for 20 minutes. To the reaction solution was added dropwise acetyl chloride (424 mg, 5.40 mmol) at the same temperature and the reaction mixture was gradually warmed to 10° C. The reaction solution was added to ice, the organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with water, an aqueous saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and saturated brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=2:1) to synthesize 873 mg (yield: 84%) of the title compound. Melting point: 176-177° C. (ethyl acetate-hexane). [α]D20=+6.2° (c=0.53, chloroform).
