A mixture of intermediate 1 (0.0514 mol) and MnO2 (18 g) in 1,4-dioxane (200 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 3 hours, then cooled to room temperature and filtered over celite. The solvent was evaporated till dryness. The product was used without further purification, yielding (quant.) of [3-(3-chlorophenyl)-2,1-benzisoxazol-5-yl](4-fluorophenyl)-methanone (intermediate 2), mp. 165° C.
